Robert Frost said, “Freedom lies in being bold.” He was right. Life demands courage to live boldly. The founding fathers exercised great boldness in separating from the British to create the United States of America.
Each 4th of July, we celebrate the acts of our founding fathers. We celebrate with cookouts, fireworks and parades. It is our most popular holiday second to Christmas. And, it is offers the opportunity to reflect upon the promise of freedom.
While we celebrate America and its promises, it is important to remember the Native American. They welcomed those seeking freedom and suffered betrayal. This piece of the American story must be told.
I close with Dakota, “We will be known forever by the tracks we leave.” Failing to share the full story is a disservice to the Native American culture and their importance to American history.
