Tuesday Thoughts: Becoming Your Hero

<![CDATA[

We typically identify heroes to be “Super” with an “S” or other monogram, upon their chest and in costume. Our community and news outlets, offer hero stories that usually involve grit witnessed through extremes and great sacrifices. But, ordinary people are heroes in ways beyond what one considers to be heroic. “Grit is living life like it’s a marathon, not a sprint,” Angela Duckworth.

Christopher Reeve lived the life of a hero in his battle to survive his equestrian sporting injury. He was an ordinary person living heroically through adversity. Though he portrayed, Superman on screen to become a hero to many, his greatest acts of heroism were to fight for his survival and also his determination to help others.

Among Christopher Reeve’s legacy of inspiration is the following quote: “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” It may sound easier than done. But, the perseverance, of Christopher Reeve and others, shows us that we may become our own heroes with faith, strength and commitment to overcome challenges.
